Road Race 24th June 2008
23 Cyclist started tonights race which was held on the Galdonagh circuit. Handicapped into two groups the first group of 14 cyclist left with a 5 minute advantage over group two. First to get dropped from this group on the hard Lifford road section was Carl Fullerton from North Pole Cycling Club, followed by Four Masters Ray Kenna.Just as the first group completed the first lap the heavens opened and the winds increased making conditions very difficult. Working well together the 2nd group eventually caught up with the leaders at about 3 miles from the finish line, to leave the full bunch sprinting for the finish. First across the Line was Jim Doyle followed by Adrain Mc Dermott, Chris Sandy, D Logue, Dinny Doherty, Paul Gallagher, Pat Dunnion, Joe Patton, Jason Mc Hugh and Martin Birney completing the top 10.
Tonights race puts Adrian Mc Dermott of the The Four Masters Cycling Club in 1st place overall in the Joe Patton Construction League, 1 point ahead of his team mate Chris Sandy.
Round 4 of the league takes place next Tuesday night, and is the 10 mile time trail on the Burt road
37 Cyclist turned out for what was the first Four Masters Cycling clubs road race on the Slab road in Burt, which runs through the centre of the Grainin estate. With the race being handicapped into 3 groups competitors left in 5 minute intervals.
Shaun Stewart who left in the first group led the race for all the way and just held of Pat Gill to take first place.
