Paddy Delap recognised for contribution to cycling in Donegal
On Sunday 13th November 2005 the Four Masters Cycling Club in Donegal Presented Mr Paddy Delap of Letterkenny, with a Four Masters and an AG2r jersey for his contribution to cycling in Donegal. Paddy is the man behind the Sligo to Letterkenny cycle, which is held on the first Sunday in July every year. Last July saw the 14th year of the run, which was set up to raise runs for Cancer research in Ireland, after the Death a great Letterkenny legend, Mr Michael Toner. 2005 was a record year with a total of €25,000 being raised by approximately 70 cyclist.
The jerseys were presented by Philip Deignam of the AG2r team. Philip's first time on a bike was in 1997 when he decided to take part in the Sligo to Letterkenny charity run. Finishing within the top 10 he was hooked on the sport, and after dedicated training, and competition in the Four Masters Club, he recently signed with AG2r. Philip who is only 22 years of age, is now ranked top junior cyclist in Ireland and is currently ranked 9th in the world.
